The east half of this map (below) shows from JANM east to Honda Plaza, today's Nishi Honganji Buddhist Church, and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church). East First Street had a strong veneer of storefronts; the previously residential back streets were turning mostly industrial by 1940.
